My PETRONAS Formula Xperience

October 28th, 2006 by sojauh

On Saturday 28th october, we were invited by the PETRONAS Motorsports to visit the PETRONAS Formula Xperience event. I was in charge of the trip. So i managed to get some of the members and lecturers to join the trip. Most of the members who went are chinese as we know we’re still in the Hari Raya mood and most of our Malay friends are not back yet. Despite having only 5 of us, we managed to get the UTP coaster; a small bus to fetch us to Sepang International Circuit.

I didnt really sleep the night before that, because i was doing something. :) So i prepared my own breakfast and all that so that i won’t have to spend more money on food. Everyone got ready by 6:45am and we assembled in front of the UTP maintenance at 7am including the lecturer Mr. Mior. The bus took off at about 7:20 and arrived at Sepang paddock entrance at about 11am.

We were received by Mr. Yusian, Mr. Saiful and Farah from PETRONAS Motorsports. Started off with the introduction to the other team members and lecturer which they have not met yet. Then, Mr. Saiful brought us into the pit where the so called 10 most wanted kids in Malaysia get their gears and prepare to race. Before i go further, for those of you who are wondering what is PETRONAS Formula Xperience or PFX? It’s actually a racing school for kids between 15 to 19 years old. These kids are specially selected by PETRONAS. They are consist of young go-cart drivers from across the country. These 10 kids are going to go thru a whole series of training using the Formula BMW car with special trainers. At the end of the day, 3 of them will be selected to race for PETRONAS in other single-seater series. Therefore, Mr. Saiful call them the 10 most wanted kids in Malaysia’s motorsports.

Anyway, we first started with Mr. Saiful telling us about all the gears that they use in PFX. and can you imagine a driver’s suit simply cost about 4000 to 7000 US dollar? Everything that the driver is wearing are made of fireproof material. Even the simplest logo on the suit require an FIA approval and it should be made of fireproof material. So, that roughly tells us all why it cost that much for a piece of clothes like that huh?

Then we were brought to the pit where all the 10 PFX Formula BMW cars were being nicely parked at. You can typically feel the heat of the tires as they have just gone for a round of practise session before we arrive. Everything was hot. So we were advised not to touch anything in the pit. and unfortunately, this time there was a photography ban imposed on the PFX area. We couldn’t take any of the picture in the vicinity of any place with the banners or logo of PFX.

During the process, We were being introduced to some of the drivers. Most of them are like 15 years old. Very disiplined individuals probably because of the training that they went thru with PETRONAS. What they do during their rest time was cleaning their cars, polishing their helmets and all that. I’m sure a typical 15 years old kid would hang around with friends or just stay idle there whenever they have a free time in a training session like that. I can see that why they are called the 10 most wanted kids in Malaysia. they might one day become the champion of the infamous Formula 1 championship. You never know. Driving a formula BMW car at the age of 14. At the age of 14, I don even have a driving licence man and they are driving single-seater formula race car.

We were being hosted with lunch after that while watching the kids go into action again. During lunch, we had a pretty lengthy experience sharing from Mr. Saiful and Farah. It was very informative and we manage to grasp some of the idea in the motorsports world. And i personally feel that Motorsports @ PETRONAS is very professional in conducting their events and managing their teams. There were a lot of examples given by Mr. Saiful where PETRONAS did set a benchmark for a certain events going a further mile to set the standards in motorsports.

After the trip, I certainly think that Motorsports is a freaking business. It’s not only about racing. it’s about disipline, it’s about satisfaction, it’s about fame, it’s about securing sponsorships. It’s everything that you can ever imagine.

Wonderful day!!!

October 25th, 2006 by sojauh

This is a story about wonderful days which happened somewhere between 1 and 2 years ago. I used to have my pouch with me everywhere i go. And i have all the important stuff inside, like my passport, PDA, wallet, Handphone and keys… One day, I lost my whole pouch and it was devastating for me. That time, I still remember I’ve placed some club;s money in it. It’s the t-shirt money for Ilia Aikido Club.  I was super nervous and too bad i couldn;t recall where did i placed it. So i spent the rest of my days thinking about it and feel very sad about it. One thing I super dont like is that I have to go through all the process of making reports, paying unnecessary fines and all that crap.
Luckily, I’m quite a chill person. So I try to forget everything by the next day. Of course still tinking about the possibility of getting back my pouch la. Anyway, I used to wake up super early to go for breakfast… sometimes swim. I remember that particular day after i lost my pouch, no one went with me for breakfast. I went alone. And I have this habit of saying this early in the morning… :"Wow, What a wonderful day…" so, as usual… I tried to say this in the most reluctant manner as I still remember what a bad day i had the day before that. Anyway, I did mention that indeed that was a wonderful day. Even though i really doubt it will be at that moment.
So after my breakfast on the way back to my hostel. I was driving and almost reaching. I saw a Russian lady bare-footed talking to a motorist. Russian lady??? What the heck? When did UTP started taking in friends of sharapova? And obviously I thought that she needed help and the motorist couldn;t help much or just don’t want to help. Being the ke po me… I stopped and asked in a very gentleman manner..:"Hi, Can i help you?" So she explained… she actually need to be at the halliburton center of excellence at that time but she overslept. So i asked her to hop in the car immediately. It was the right time to show off the Jackie Chan stunt I learnt in the movie. So i sped off to Halliburton at almost instantaneously. When i reached the destination which is less than 2 minutes from the place where i picked her up, she actually handed me 20 ringgit just because I sent her a distance of like … at most 500 meter? Of course i didnt take it. I told her that it’s just a favour. FOC. she insisted… But i insisted again… and finally I won… muahahhaa… and u know what? She gave me a peck at my cheek and told me that i’m very nice and kept thanking me. wow… being the very conservative me, I was stunt… kinda having mixed emotion during that time. But it really made my day and i felt it was really a good way to start my day.
So actually the magic word did work huh? the wonderful day crap? That’s actually not the end of the story yet. It’s actually the beginning of one of the most wonderful days I’ve ever had after one of the most bad day. haha… So what else so wonderful happened that day? Some one actually came up and told me that one of our favourite lecturer, Mr. Narahari found a pencil case. What the hell is a pencil case gonna do with my wonderful day? Being the very clever me, I was pretty sure that Mr. Narahari couldn;t quite distinguish between a pencil case and a pouch. Probably I put some pen inside the pouch. So, I tried my luck by looking for him in the office and asked for the so called pencil case. Of course he was clever enough to test me first before giving me the pouch. And I was right? the pencil case was my pouch… I was damn damn damn happy that time. And the most wonderful thing that can ever happen is that everything inside the pouch is still there. nothing was missing. Ya, Wanna take this chance to thank Mr. Narahari again. I remember thanking him like mad that day. hahaha…
Anyway, By just saying simple sentence like… "Wow, what a wonderful day!" every morning can relly make a difference. Try it.. First thing to do in the morning before you even brush your teeth, say "Wow… What a wonderful day!!!" And I’m sure that you will have one.

Death!!

October 24th, 2006 by sojauh

Death is actually the final common destination of all of us. No one can escape die. perhaps death is designed so that the old can go and be replaced by the new. I’m sure a lot of you have heard before "live each day as if it is the last." What does it really mean? Living each day as if it is the very last of your days. Actually, this single phrase can really mean a big deal to all of us.
Have you ever asked yourself this simple question? "What if this is the last day of my life?" "Am I doing what i’m suppose to do?" This 2 questions can be 2 of the most important questions that all of us have to asked ourself every single day. if the answer is no for more than a couple of days, then we should start evaluating ourself and start changing.
Living today as if it is the last day means that you have to give all your best towards everything that you do. You have no more concern over fame, fortune, pride, embarassment and all the other crap. You will typically only focus on the most important things in life. Like talking to the one you love. Preparing the best for your loved ones even after you leave. Most importantly, you’ll definitely be a better person as a whole. Even the most cruel criminal will be changed if he knows that that is the final day of his life and he has only 24 hours more in this world. Who do you think he will thought of?
I don’t know how much it will work if you practise asking yourself the same whole qeustion every single day. But i’ve read some where that some very successful personality in the world actually do practise this. And of course he became really really successful. I think he’s the founder of Pixar name steve something one. can anybody tell me? As what i remembered reading was, he actually practise asking the same question himself over the past 33 years. woah… dunno true or not la. But i’m sure that is very effective lo. Cos you’ll definitely feel it if your answer is no no no no no… come on man… you fucking not doing the things that u suppose to do… What are u waiting for? i’m sure u feel the guilt of being not effective at all.
Guys, try it out. It may change your life.

Interview at Robert Bosch

October 23rd, 2006 by sojauh

I was called by the representative from Bosch to have an interview with them on the 20th october 2006. Other than me alone, there are another 4 of my friends were also being asked to attend the interview on the same day. They are Leong, Sasen, Aaron Ang, and Puvanan. This means that we have to compete with each other for the same job. And what i’ve heard from the people in Bosch is that they are going to take only one person as their trainees instead of 2. This has been very frustrating to us as we have to typically "kill" each other during the interview session. Killing here means we really have to outshine each other la… not kill la. Like what Sasen crap, let’s go to mamak the night b4 we go for the interview… and then … muahahaha . poison the rest of the interviewees.
So me, Leong, and Aaron together with Kelly started our journey to KL on thursday evening. We reached KL at about 10pm. We sent Kelly home first and then the 3 of us… quite blind about the road in KL tried to find the famous bak kut teh in Kepong. But all effort went in vain. not to say totally in vain la… at least we got to try bak kut teh eaten with porridge. and the porridge is not bad la. Me and Leong over-ate. We had too much food that night. Till the point we couldn;t really walk properly. Then we head of to Cheras, my cousin;s place. Luckily my aunt and uncle went to China so leong and aaron stay together with me at my cousin;s place. The next morning, have to send Aaron to the LRT station super early in the morning. At 6am. This is because his interview was scheduled at 8:15am. and mine is at 10:45 whereas leong’s is at 11:15. so we can sleep another 1 or 2 more hours.
Anyway, me and Leong arrived about 1 hour earlier from my interview time. First person i saw when i arrive Robert Bosch was Munira. I wanted to call her earlier but i totally forgotten about it. I knew that she is working as a trainee there as well. Of course, before the interview, we did get some tips from Aaron and Puvanan as their interview sessions are much earlier than ours. So there we waited, and we waited, and we tried to memorize the information Leong get from the internet and read their brochure and try our best to know more about the company. I remember there’s this company vision and mission statement hanging on the wall with german language. Of course also with the translation of it la. So i also tried to read it to know more about the culture of the company.
Finally, it’s my turn to head into the interview room. The interviewer. Mr. Charanjit Singh. One of the most approachable interviewer i;ve ever met. In a way, the interview was conducted at a very casual manner where you wont feel nervous at all. The interview lasted for about 40 minutes.
After the interview, we went makan yong tau fu… then Leong headed back to UTP while Aaron went to Seremban and me… stay in KL for another few days. Wanna thank Kelly for recommending to apply to Bosch. Anyway, hope that anyone from the 5 of us will get the offer from Bosch.

Shell interview

October 16th, 2006 by sojauh

I received an e mail from Shell last wednesday calling for an interview for placement of internship in their company. I was so excited to be interviewed by them man. So i set the interview slot at 10:30am by phone on Friday. So on friday, as excited as before… i dressed up nicely, woke up early, went to the library and booked a discussion room, waited for them to call. I waited and waited… waited and waited… What the hell took them so long to call? So, instead of them calling me, I called the coordinator for interview. And i got to know that their online system had some error so they didnt get my confirmation of the time slot. So Ms. Suraya, the coordinator arranged another interview session for me on Monday 4:15pm.
I was a bit disappointed with it cos i have to wait another few days again. Then, I checked my e mail. I found out that my interview was scheduled at damansara heights which will be quite impossible for me to attend as i need to attend class on Monday. So again, I called… and e mailed. And I got confirmation from the coordinator that mine is a phone interview.
Monday lo… quite pack a day i can say. Have meeting at 12pm and have to do preparation before that. then class … then waited in the library for the interviewer to call. I waited and waited… waited and waited… I brought my handphone charger actually, but the damn library socket cannot fit the double pin. it’s the stupid design with the 2 metal plates at the side one. makes me damn fruss.. I tot i have enough battery to go through the phone interview. So i didnt bother. So i continue waited. Till one point i feel like calling back again. Luckily i didnt. They called me at about 4:30 which is 15 minutes late already.
So the interview began. I felt like talking to a computer. First of all, she talks real fast, very very clear despite the fact that we’re on the phone, and it’s very systematic. she started asking me what is my greatest achievement in my own opinion. At that moment, i was thinking of CEO-Match. And i still think it is. And from there on.. she lead me to a full load of questions regarding the competition, the team, the problems, and everything else a normal person wouldn’t think of asking. Anyway, I got a way with it.
Then, she asked me to talk on the topic "tourism"… What the hell is tourism? So i have to tell … what i think.. what’s the advantages and disadvantages of tourism… and suddenly, and I was expecting that of course… my phone ran out of battery. I tried to on it again and it work for another like 5 to 10 minutes and it went off again. WTF…. I quickly ran out of the discussion room. Saw Hun Pin and Chun Wah reading newspaper there. Fast fast ask them to pass me their phone and change the SIM card immediately. I was damn gan cheong d that time. luckily she called back and she remembers where I stopped. Anyway, i think that the interview really test you on how much you can crap and how much you know about the happenings of the world. I think i did ok ok la. not too bad. But not so good also. Hopefully i can get some favourable reply from them as soon as possible.
Another interview on Friday in Robert Borch PJ.  Why don;t they juz save the hussle and juz offer me the job? hahaha…

Getting FAT or FIT???

October 14th, 2006 by sojauh

FAT and FIT is juz missed by one letter. Actually, I haven;t been going for sports for quite some time except for occasional work out session at David’s house. I think i was FIT all the while cos i can hardly get FAT.

er… Let’s see how to define FIT. To me, if you are FIT means you look good from the outside, muscular, very good body proportion, don;t really neeFat_1d a 6 pack to show that you are FIT, very good stamina, strong, and lots and lots more. Since i stopped playing Squash for a long time i tot it would be nice if i juz go and practise and play again. I found out that after such a long time, even though the basics are still there.. I typically cant stand the running and chasing during the match. If it was 2 or 3 years back, I wouldn’t feel that way. FAT in other way is easier to be idenfied instead of FIT. If someone is FAT, you can just tell by the physical appearance, the outlook. Some one FAT can never be FIT. they may have the stamina, they may be able to carry something very heavy.. but that doesn;t mean that they are FIT. FAT is definitely unhealthy and FIT is undeniably healthier.

So what exactly contributes to the lack of stamina and what makes someone unFIT or FAT? According to my own humble opinion:

  1. Unhealthy lifestyle
  2. Stress
  3. Bad time management
  4. Laziness
  5. of course FOOD…
  6. Delicioud food…
  7. chocolates
  8. never exercise
  9. use car too often
  10. work
  11. and many many more…

In my own opinion la.. those above can contribute to the reason of us being FAT. In order to be FIT. you’ll have to live a very disipline lifestyle. Drink lots of water nit liquor, Breath healthy air not HAZE(one of the excuse for not going out to exercise), Walk if can… don drive all the time, take more meals but less portion, set fixed time to eat, sleep, and work… I can continue and continue… there are so many ways to prevent urself from getting fat actually… Think of some motivation to hold on to so that can become FIT. Fit

Anyway, I juz wanna tell you guys… Take care of ur own body… Be FIT.. Not FAT. I’m getting fatter now, so i better start taking my own advice now. If not i’ll have to change all the pants.. maybe the clothes inside my closet.

Have fun being FIT.
